Tomorrow: day of action to support the La Jolla seals

When: Saturday, May 7, 10 am

Where: La Jolla, CA, meet at the corner of Girard and Prospect at 10am

“Must we humans be so selfish that we would deny the seals a small spot on the coast they can call their own. Those who want the seals removed so children can have the beach have certainly not asked the children what they want. Most children would prefer to see seals living happy on a beach than to see them removed. The people who are victimizing these seals are both anti-nature and anti-children. They have their own agenda of greed and prejudice.”

- Captain Paul Watson, founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society

Please come out and show support for these precious citizens of La Jolla. The seals and the activists who work to actually protect them have been bullied for far too long.

We plan to peacefully walk through downtown and then rally at the beach and our message is clear. Keep the rope up. Stay off of the beach. Protect the seals. “Shared use” is only leading to stress and harassment of these sensitive and Federally protected animals. This rally is to support the City Council vote of keeping the rope up year round and closing the beach during pupping season and eventually establishing a sanctuary for the seals. Bring signs if you can.

Here’s the press release in Huffington Post (thank you Andy!) with a support quote from Paul Watson himself:

Also, on May 13, APRL is back in court to fight for the year-round rope that was unlawfully denied by the Planning Commission against the San Diego City Council vote of last year.

A follow up TRO (Temporary Restraining Order) hearing is set for 1:30 pm on Friday, May 13 in Dept. 60 (Judge Lisa Foster) at 330 W. Broadway St. Hopefully the judge will order to keep the rope up after May 15. Please attend and show your support. Free 3 h parking at Horton Plaza.

See you there!
