I notice you show a picture of a sunny day and no seals and a cloudy day with seals. It is almost like you don’t know that seals have a thick layer of blubber to keep them warm on icebergs. I challenge you to wear an inch thick layer of insulation and a fur coat from head to toe and lie out in the sun. The seals need to cool off. I have plenty of photos of sunny days with no people and no seals.

Sarah please tell me of a man made beach anywhere else that I can use like the Childrens’ Pool? You do know that it was not constructed by seals or for seals? It was made for the children of the City of San Diego over eighty years ago.
And before you label me as a hater of anything, I love the seals. I respect them and enjoy spending time down there. I enjoyed my time in the water so much, that is why I got a college degree in Oceanography. In the water they will swim right up to you and do all kinds of tricks and are very curious. On the beach, they will come right up to you and fall asleep and are so cute! This is not the sign of an animal that feels threatened. They are used to humans presence now and do not see us as a threat at all. There two modes in that regard are fight or flight. If they were so scared of the beach, they would not come back. Perhaps if you had some more experience with the ocean and its occupants, you would understand that the seals are doing just fine with the shared use policy.

According to your friends Seaworld, infant mortality of harbor seal is 21%. This means that in a completely natural environment, much more than 21% of all the new borns will dies because of natural causes, including stress and predation. What is abnormal, unnatural, and harmful for the seals, is providing an artificial rookery devoid of the very processes that is required to cull the weak and improve the population. If you really wanted to “protect” these seals at Children’s Pool and the local harbor seal population as a whole and also close CP, you would need to introduce natural predators like coyotes, cougars, brown bears, etc, to CP.

During the Korean War, American soldiers, in their well purposed desire to ease the stress of starving refugees, gave them steaks which the refugees happily consumed, only to die miserably of N-poisoning due to the massive amounts of protein ingested.

It would serve the seals well to splice your good intentions with wisdom and foresight.

Brian, at the most recent LJCPA meeting, the meeting in with the officers and trustees voted unanimously in support of shared use, I made the case that shutting down the beach would be detrimental to the Village economy. They seemed to agree. The rope’s affect on the economy is a laughable fallacy. And, even if it is not, it appears that La Jolla is willing to take the hit. Maybe getting rid of the harassment and hysteria is worth it for them.

As for me, I care about the seal population as a whole and the wonderful beach that Ellen Scripps gifted to the children.

why would a seal piss me off? I love the ocean and all of it’s inhabitants including the seals. The ocean is awesome,cp and the seals are awesome. The video shows Andrea losing her temper, and we have all lost our temper at some point in our lives. Was she baited into it? No more then the FOS baited people in there videos. There was a record number of births down there last year with the shared use policy in place. The seals continue to come back to the beach after going out to feed everyday. Brian, you keep talking about people being to answer questions, but you keep refusing to answer them yourself.

Like the big one burning in everyones mind here:

WHY WERE YOU LOOKING AT PHOTOS OF MEN ON A DATING SITE BRIAN?

Actually, it would explain a lot. Your anger (closet issues), your obsession with Dan (you have a crush… how cute), etc.

I think you would feel a lot better and be more balanced if you just embraced who you are Brian. Come out of the closet, accept the fact you are obsessed with Dan because you are gay and have a crush on him. I think you will be a lot more balanced and not begivento these rage filled rants.

I just don’t think it’s fair that you take all of your angst from your own choice to be trapped in the closet out onto innocent divers who just want to use the beach. Or do you do it because they are straight? Either way it’s not fair.

Just admit it, come out of the closet, and you will be much happier Brian.
